Life Hacks for Working Moms: Streamlining Your Daily Routine

Posted on May 22, 2023 by Working Mom Handbook

As a working mom, you’re no stranger to the daily juggle of responsibilities. Between work, kids, and household chores, it can feel like there’s never enough time in the day. But what if we told you that your daily routine could be streamlined with a few simple hacks and reclaim some of your precious time?

In this article, we’ll share practical tips and tricks to help streamline your day, reduce stress, and make things easier. So, buckle up, moms; it’s time to hack your day!

Plan Ahead

Planning ahead is essential. The key to a smooth day starts the night before. Spending a few minutes each evening planning for the next day can save you hours of stress and chaos. Here are a few things you can do:

  • Prepare meals: Plan and prep your meals ahead of time. This could mean making a big batch of breakfast burritos for the week, packing lunches the night before, or preparing ingredients for dinner.
  • Lay out clothes: Avoid the morning scramble of finding matching socks by laying out everyone’s clothes the night before.
  • To-Do List: Write a to-do list for the next day. Prioritize the tasks and tackle the most important ones first.

These are only a few examples, but planning your daily tasks ahead of time can reduce your workload and your stress.

Delegate and Automate

You’re a supermom, but that doesn’t mean you have to do everything yourself. Delegating tasks to family members lightens your load and teaches your kids responsibility.

Automation can also help reduce your workload. In future articles, we’ll discuss how working moms can leverage even more automation opportunities from new advancements in AI technology.

Delegate Tasks

Here are examples of tasks you could delegate:

  • Chores: Assign age-appropriate chores to your kids. Even toddlers can help pick up toys or put dirty clothes in the hamper.
  • Grocery shopping: Consider using a grocery delivery or pickup service to save time. Many supermarkets offer this service, and some even have apps that let you add items to your list throughout the week.

Automate Tasks

Automation is another excellent way for working moms to streamline routines. Here are a few examples of tasks that you could automate:

  • Bill payments: Set up automatic payments for your bills to avoid late fees and reduce stress.
  • Subscriptions: Subscribe to regular deliveries of household essentials like toilet paper, cleaning supplies, or diapers.

There are many more examples of ‘mom automation’, which we’ll discuss in a future article.

Embrace “Good Enough”

It’s easy for working moms to fall into the trap of wanting to do everything perfectly, but striving for perfection can lead to burnout. Instead, embrace the concept of good enough. Here are some examples of how embracing “good enough” can help:

  • Housework: Your house doesn’t need to be spotless. As long as it’s clean and safe, it’s okay if toys are on the floor or dishes in the sink.
  • Parenting: You don’t have to be the “perfect” parent. It’s okay to serve mac and cheese for dinner or let your kids watch an extra hour of TV so you can get some work done.
  • Work: You don’t always have to be the top performer at your job. It’s okay to say no to extra projects or to leave work on time to pick up your kids.

The Goal is Balance, not Perfection

Being a working mom is a tough job, but with a bit of planning, delegation, automation, and a healthy dose of self-compassion, you can streamline your daily routine and make life a little easier.

Remember, the goal isn’t to be perfect—it’s to find a balance that works for you and your family. So, try these hacks and see how they can transform your day. You’ve got this!
